CMH Manufacturing d/b/a/ Clayton Homes has purchased a building on State Highway 31W for and is planning purchasing additional property for an Athens location.

Athens Economic development Corporation Executive Director Lisa Denton said the company plans to create 240 full time jobs over the next five years. On Friday, the AEDC Board of Directors approved an incentive package of to $300,000 for job creation. The package will be presented to the Athens City Council on April 11 for final approval.

The company has acquired the building at 3429 SH 31 W and plans to add $6,555,681 in real and personal property to this facility,” Denton said. “They will be adding 40,000 square feet to the existing 155,000 square foot facility, making it their largest of 37 locations in the US. This will be a premier facility and will be utilized as a training center for employees from other locations.”

“We are thrilled that Clayton Homes, a Berkshire Hathaway Company, has selected Athens for their 8th location in Texas,” Denton said. “To know that they have the confidence in our area to create a first of its kind, premier facility for employee retention and training is also great news, as this will increase the heads in beds at our local hotels. We look forward to working with Clayton in the coming months to help this project continue moving forward. They project starting operations in October 2016.”
