Athens Economic Development Corporation officials presented Athens Screen Printing with an incentive check for $15,627 for year one job creation and capital improvements last week. Athens Screen Printing opened its doors in Athens on S. Palestine Street in a small building located south of the downtown square.
Athens Economic Development Corporation officials presented Clayton Athens with an $80,000 incentive check for year two job creation on Thursday. Clayton’s operations began in Athens in October 2016, after purchasing an existing facility on Highway 31 West. The 168,000-plus square foot, first-of-its-kind facility is one of the largest of Clayton’s 40 home building facilities in the United States.
Athens Economic Development Corporation has announced its call for Community Development Grant applications. The Community Development Grant program is designed to provide grants for eligible projects which promote sports, cultural, entertainment and community projects that attract tourism and contribute to quality of life, business development and growth of Athens sales tax revenue.
Earlier this year, the Henderson County Regional Fair Park Complex applied for Athens Economic Development Corporation’s Community Development Grant, requesting grant funds to replace 40 stalls in the front barn, at a cost of $66,636. With this portion completed, AEDC board of directors ruled the project in compliance and awarded $30,000 in matching funds toward the stall replacement project.
AEDC's Business Assistance Grant program encourages exterior improvements to distressed properties located within the designated beautification area, along the western, northern and southern main corridors of Athens. Businesses must apply by November 30 to be considered for 2019 funding.
