The Workforce Development Grant helps Athens employers fund training for new hires and current employees. The goal is to close funding gaps so local teams get the skills they need to grow and compete.
This is a reimbursement grant. Recipients pay training costs up front; AEDC reimburses at the approved rate after verified participation. A performance agreement is required; training cannot begin before the agreement is executed.
Funding overview
- Employers with fewer than 100 employees: After Texas Workforce Commission funds are used, AEDC can reimburse up to 50% of the cost per employee for AEDC-approved courses.
- Employers with more than 100 employees: After ETCOG Incumbent Worker Program support (capped at 25%), AEDC can reimburse up to 50% of the cost per employee for AEDC-approved courses.
- Child care centers: Employees working at least 20 hours a week may receive up to $1,000 per semester for no more than two semesters through an accredited higher-education provider, pending board approval.
Grant Guidelines

- Employee counts must be verified with payroll/quarterly reporting for the Athens location.
- Applicants must first use available state, regional, or federal training funds; AEDC fills the remaining gap.
