Indoors, Outdoors, Food & Drink - It's All Here In Athens

The culture of Athens is a small town feel with charm, a sociable community, friendly and fun, with the amenities that make a community a great place to live and raise a family. With Lake Athens only a 15-minute commute after work...

Where would you rather be at 5:45 pm?

With weather that allows for activities outside almost year round, Athens is a place where you can become a wine connoisseur, see freshwater fish up close without getting wet, fly across the treetops on a wire, zoom around on a jet ski on an 1,800 lake, explore nature, learn something new, eat, drink, shop and just have good fun.

Did You Know...

The Hamburger Was Invented Here!

That's right, the hamburger, as we know it today, was created right here in Athens by Fletcher Davis. Back in the 1880s, he opened a lunch counter in Athens and served a 'burger' made of fried ground beef patties with mustard and thinly sliced Bermuda onions between two slices of bread, with a pickle on the side. This simple yet delicious creation quickly gained popularity—and the rest, as they say, is history!
